"A Return to the Circle" by Erica Manfred -- a popularly-written essay on the revival of "earth-based spirituality" in the West. Estimates of participants range all the way from 50,000 to 800,000. New Age Journal, Oct '96, p80.

Magical Religion and Modern Witchcraft, James R. Lewis, ed. (SUNY, 1996) -- I just came across this in the Winter/Spring catalog from State University of New York Press. The 336-page volume is divided into six parts, the first of which introduces the wiccan world view. Part Four briefly treats the subject of ethics with two dissimilar chapters. Part Five is titled "Christianity and Neo-Paganism." Its three chapters are titled "Embracing Jesus and the Goddess," "Where Christian Liturgy and Neo-Pagan Ritual Meet," and "Works of Darkness: Occult Fascination in the Novels of Frank E. Peretti."

"The Role of Elders in the Pagan Community" by M. Macha Nightmare -- catch the name? The author is an elder in what I believe to be the largest of all Wiccan organizations, Covenant of the Goddess. Her article helps lend form to what is essentially a movement with little structure. Green Egg, Sep/Oct '96, p5 (also see p12 & 22).
(from Apologia Report 1:29, November 11, 1996)

"Witches on Retreat" by Anne Hill -- describes the growing popularity of week-long spiritual retreats known as "witchcamps." The typical activities for *these* campers includes "studying trancework, healing, dancing, storytelling, guided visualization, and magic." Includes a calendar of four witchcamp events across the country this year. An example on the Web is available at <http://www.reclaiming.org> which is affiliated with bestselling Wiccan author, Starhawk. New Age Journal, Jul/Aug '97, p55.
